This is in tribute to my two pet dogs, one of whom died about a year ago, the other a few months beforehand.
I loved them both very much. They had been with me since I was four years old.
Those two best friends
Of all my friends,
who were not related by blood,
you were the only ones who stayed with me.
You were always there for me in my childhood,
though I became distant as I grew into adolescence,
but you remained children throughout.
Why did I cry when you departed?
Would you have cried, if you could?
Did you know your fate?
Did you look forward to a better place?
Or fear torment, or oblivion?
In childhood, I talked to you because I thought you understood,
in adolescence, I talked to you because I knew you couldn't,
but you always listened, faithfully.
Why did I cry when you departed?
Would you have cried, if you could?
What did you feel, as death drew near?
Did you accept your pain?
Or did you long for its end?
As a child, I played with you like I would a toy,
As a teenager, I played with you to make the most of your time,
but you were always happy, whatever happened.
Why did I cry when you departed?
Would you have cried, if you could?
Did you know what death was?
Did you believe in a hereafter?
Or were you convinced of the end?
In body, you are gone now,
you have become food for the creatures of the ground,
so, in a sense, your deaths were not in vain.
But your greatest act, my friends,
was creating me.
The butterfly flaps its wings for but a day,
but the vibrations it creates can affect eternity.

I had 2 cats,
but one died when I was young,
so I know whats it like to lose a pet whom you dearly loved,
That was a really touching poem and it was really beautiful,
It reminded me of all the good times ive had with both of my cats when they were alive,
and how sophie [now dead] was always curling up on my bed with me when i was sick,
and also how when I was really young, Sheebie, would comfort me when I cried.
I feel so sad that you had to say goodbye to those you dearly loved,
and i wish you luck for the future,
welldone!
Hello there! I felt that this is a really touching poem... I've had dogs too, who had passed on. Thank you, for this poem, which manages to bring out that feeling... You're able to put it into words and a nice, flowing poem and this is not something all poets can achieve. GREAT JOB! (:
I really like the stanzas:
Really, a meaningful piece of work. Keep it up! (:
Cheers,
DrammaMomma.
Hi,

I thought that was really good!!
I like the way you you explained how you were closer
to them when you were a child than when you became
a teenager, but how you still loved them even then.
I think there isn't really a pattern in the passages though,
but even so, it's really great!
Makes me think of my dogs and appreciate them more!!
No friends like dogs...
Good work!!
